OBJECTIVES: This study reviews the results of 105 out of the 160 pre and postlingual patients in India , who have been implanted with a Clarion Cochlear Implant from 2000 to 2007 ,with age at implantation ranging from 1.5 to 77 years, and using different speech processing strategies.■
METHODS: An enhanced bipolar precurved electrode array was used in 14 cases, A Hifocus 1 in 11 cases , a CII Bionic Ear in 15 cases, and a Hires90K with 1J and helix electrodes in the remaining 65 cases . SIS, CAS and MPS strategies were used for the precurved, HiFocus 1 and CII Bionic ear cases initially. Later on, the CII Bionic Ear and Hires90K cases were mapped with hi-resolution strategy. All patients, underwent rehabilitation and test procedures, at the end of the 1st week, 4th week, and 6 months for recognition of vowels, consonants, sentences and for speech production in 6 languages.■
RESULTS: The speech discrimination and speech production scores , were higher in patients using the Hiresolution strategy than in patients using the CIS, SAS , and MPS strategies.■
CONCLUSION: From this study of short term results, we concluded that fast stimulating strategy of Hiresolution, produced better results earlier, than the strategies of CIS, SAS and MPS.
