In this instructional session the theoretical and physiological background of Otoacoustic Emissions will be briefly reviewed. The main types of Otoacoustic Emission technology will be described including those for the recording of TEOAE’s; DPOAE’s; SOAE’s and SFOAE’s. The uses of OAE’s in hearing screening, clinical investigations and research will be described. Demonstrations of OAE recordings and case studies will be presented and the interpretation of the results discussed. Practical tuition will be given on the effective use of OAE instruments. The various techniques and instruments available will be discussed. Participants in this session should in future be able to select appropriate Otoacoustic instrumentation and techniques for their application and interpret the results obtained.
