In our hospital, canal down and reconstruction is usually managed in tympanoplasty. We think this method is excellent in following points because of its wide surgical view. Firstly; complete removal of cholesteatoma is not so difficult. Secondly: ossicular chain reconstruction is easier than canal up surgery. So excellent hearing gain can be achieved. Lastly; Reconstructed canal wall provides self-cleaning ability.
