The Zurich technique for CI and the vibrant soundbridge implantation uses two overlapping,
reverse-pedicled soft tissue flaps. The advantage is not only the reduced size of the
operative field, but also the fixation of the receiver of the internal receiver unit
underneath the elevated musculoperiosteal flap
without suture fixation. No wound infections, extrusions or flap failures have been
observed in over 100 cochlear implant procedures. The surgical technique is very similar
for the implantation of the vibrant soundbridge and will be presented in detail.
