Apatite ceramic implant has been widely used in oto-surgery. In this presentation, we reported the surgical procedure and results of stapedectomy in otosclerosis using an apatite ceramic implant. This prosthesis (0.6mm in diameter) has no wire loop to be fixed to the long process of the incus. The surgical procedure includes the placement of this prosthesis between the renticular process of the incus and the fenestra covered with perichondrium. From 1986 to 2005, 300 ears with otosclerosis underwent stapedectomy using this prosthesis. From the results, we discuss the pros and cons of this type of prosthesis for stapedectomy.
