P1-1. INTRACOCHLEAR MISDIRECTION IMPLANTATION OF A COCHLEAR IMPLANT

An intracochlear fausse route implantation has be describes recently in cases of far advanced otosclerosis 1. This paper presents a case-report of a rare complication of the implantation of a cochlear implant. Relatively few complications have been reported for cochlear implant surgery. The introduction of the Softip®electrode  is an improvement in cochlear implant surgery 2 but can result in a misdirection because of the flexibility of the tip. In cases of anatomical variation of the basal coil of the cochlea, advanced otosclerosis or deviated cochleostomy a misdirection of the electrode can occur as presented in this case. These complications make a strong argument for the use of preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative radiologic examinations
