Although very successful results were reported in the literature in a given prosthesis, one should always be cautious in his synthesis as these large series were reported by surgeons who are extremely experienced in their particular technique. Because of this reason, the reported percentage rate can hardly be reached and comparison of results for different types of prosthesis and techniques for different pathological conditions in chronic otitis can be confusing.

This study was carried out to analyse the factors, which influence the outcome of ossiculoplasty. In a series of 110 chronic otitis media, operated between the period of 1993-1997 in Department of Otolaryngology, University of Ankara. Hydroxylapatite TORP 's and PORP 's were used for ossicular reconstruction for primary repair or staged operations.

The results showed the risks involved in one-stage reconstruction, in cases of persistent dishrag. Primary reconstruction in cholesteatoma cases were found to be the major cause of unsuccessful results. These factors have particular importance concerning the conditions in our country. The lateralization and displacement of prosthesis were the other commonest cause in one - stage reconstruction.
