PROGNOSTIC FACTORS OF OPEN TECHNIQUE TYMPANOPLASTIES

Open technique is assumed to be a safer operation in regard to recurrence of residual cholesteatoma, as compared with closed operations. However it is important to give importance on some measures which are closely related with the successful outcome of the technique. These measures are to create rounded smooth edges, lower facial ridge, enlarged meatoplasty (Conchameatoplasty) and removing all the diseased mastoid cells. So it will be possible to obtain a dry self-cleansing cavity lined with squamous epithelium.

65 patients with open cavity having a follow-up period of 2 years were analyzed retrospectively, and their operative findings were compared with the late postoperative results
